Engine Details and final assembly
It's all in the details
It is amazing to see all the variations of "restored" cars. Many restorers take certain liberties, either from lack of knowledge or personal taste, when they restore their vehicles. In my quest to return this Dorset to the way it would have come off the assembly line back in '48, I have collected and studied dozens of photos of original cars to determine what colors were used, and which parts were left unpainted. In these photos, you can see the manifolds, thermostat cover, fuel pump, water shut off valve, oil filler cap and the plate on top of the valve cover are left in bare metal, just as the factory did. I also ordered these wire-type hose clamps to mimic those used at the time this car was built. I will also be converting the oil filter system back to the original external canister system. Many Austin owners, and owners of other early cars, prefer to convert them to modern day spin-on filters. My car had a butt-ugly remote filter system mounted to the right fender well.
