rebuilding the left sill
Sill repair
removing the old
The entire bottom of the sill and most of the front had to be removed. The inner panels were rusted out too

discarded pieces
These are the pieces removed. I used the bottom panel for a pattern. Luckily I had an extra rocker panel from a 1954 Chrysler project which had contour dimensions that matched the outer sill skin.

chrysler vs austin?
This is the new sill piece that I made from a section of the Chrysler rocker panel. I even had enough to do the right hand sill which required the same repair.

Welding in the new pieces
Here is the new piece welded in. I have some better photos of the right side which required the same repairs. Look for them on a following page.

I used this inexpensive angle gauge to make sure I maintained the proper angle while welding in the new panel. Here you can see how well the Chrysler panel's contours matched the Austin body. (look beyond weld)
